Bursa Malaysia Down in Early Session, Following Regional Sentiment Meeting

Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower as investors sold their heavyweights amid weak regional performance.


At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 9.99 points to 1,619.19 compared to 1,629.18 at Thursday's close.


The barometer index opened 4.22 points weaker at 1,624.96 and fluctuated between 1,614.83 and 1,624.96 throughout the morning session.


Broad market sentiment was negative with losers outnumbering gainers by 860 to 309. Meanwhile, 441 counters were unchanged, 796 counters were untraded and 10 others were suspended.



The total turnover is 3.37 billion units worth RM2.43 billion.


Based on Melaka Securities Research's statement, FBM KLCI experienced a pullback from its 52-week high involving heavyweight utility stocks. Meanwhile, FBM ACE started to break through the 52-week high.


Meanwhile, the firm said sentiment on Wall Street was mixed despite Nvidia's better-than-expected results. US Manufacturing and Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data was better than expected and new home sales data was softer than expected.


Among the heavyweights, Petronas Dagangan Bhd fell 16 sen to RM20.26, Tenaga Nasional Bhd lost eight sen to RM13.02 and Telekom Malaysia Bhd lost five sen to RM6.50. Of the active shares, AHB Holdings Bhd rose 0.5 sen to 17.5 sen.


Completing the main gainers were Sime Darby Property Bhd which rose nine sen to RM1.25 and FajarBaru Builder Group Bhd rose five sen to RM43.5 sen.
