An Egyptian security guard was killed in a shootout near the Rafah border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Monday.

For now, the two country's armies are investigating reports of shootings that claimed several lives.

Previously, the Israeli side had seized control of the Rafah border crossing Gaza since the beginning of May in order to increase its military attacks in the area. The reckless action has drawn strong criticism from Egypt.

After the Zionist state imposed aid restrictions on the people of Rafah, Egypt feared that the Palestinians would be forced to move from the border area. They have repeatedly accused Israel of withholding the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.

Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1979 and have cooperated closely on security issues between Israel, Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and Gaza. They jointly enforced the blockade on Gaza after Hamas took control of the territory in 2007.

Security incidents and conflicts between the two countries are rare.

However, since the war conflict that began in October 2023. Israel said one of its tanks accidentally breached an Egyptian position near the Gaza border and some of their guards suffered minor injuries.

Recently, three Israeli soldiers and an Egyptian security officer were killed in clashes on the border.
