Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda has apologized for massive cheating on certification tests for seven of his vehicle models and suspended production of three of them.
The test fraud by the leading Japanese automaker involved the use of insufficient data, crash tests, crash airbag tests and rear seat damage during crashes. The engine power test was also found to have been falsified.
Japan-based Toyota Corp has suspended production of some of its models such as the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio and Yaris Cross. The test cheat was found on those models.
They said, the misconduct does not affect the safety of users on the road for Corolla and Lexus models.
Toyoda apologized to reporters during a media statement on Monday. However, the issue did not affect Toyota's overseas production.
Toyota executive Shinji Miyamoto, who manages the customer satisfaction division, said it had begun reviewing its own tests following problems at the company.
The revelation of Toyota's test fraud has had a devastating impact on the decades-old car giant and its corporate management group will be empowering workers to produce better models.
Among the proposed measures is to create stricter certification rules and promise that cases of misconduct will not happen again. The company may be too eager to finish the test and shorten the time of the variety of models to continue to develop.
As a record, the Toyota company has sold more than 10 million vehicles worldwide.
