News about the sale of Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (MAHB) to foreign companies like Blackrock is a false narrative created by the opposition.
According to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticized the actions of the opposition who played the issue even though they had dealt with Blackrock directly during the last term's government.
He claimed they (the opposition) forgot that the important decision to give Blackrock was decided on 26 February 2021.
When Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became the Prime Minister together with his cabinet, they decided to hand over the management of separately managed accounts belonging to the Employee Provident Fund (KWSP) and Shariah private equity funds worth about RM2.5 billion to Blackrock.
He further explained that the share ownership of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and KWSP in MAHB has increased to 70% and the remaining 30% is owned by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
The sale involving the airport is not true and it only involves internal management. MAHB remains an airline owned by the Malaysian Government.
GIP also issued an official statement that Blackrock is not involved in the management of the airport under MAHB.
The statement was in response to a question from Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) about the decision of a consortium of government-related investment companies on the sale of MAHB shares to GIP.
