National car manufacturer Proton Holdings Bhd has just introduced an electric vehicle (EV) brand called e.MAS in Malaysia's move towards electrification.
Proton in its statement said the name acronym represents the goal of empowering Malaysia. The symbol 'e' stands for EV and the abbreviation MAS stands for Malaysia.
It will reflect its mission to mobilize the mobility of Malaysians through the EV model in the future.
They also introduced a logo for their new EV brand featuring a 2D logo design and an 'unconfined' tiger to symbolize forward movement towards success.
Proton's chief executive officer, Dr Li Chunrong emphasized that the launch of the e-MAS brand and logo is evidence of significant progress in Proton's development towards introducing its own EV model.
As a company tied to Malaysian industry, they need to be responsible for providing mobility solutions that are relevant and attainable by all Malaysians.
He also said that Proton had previously revealed that 17 EV distributors had finalized their agreement in a ceremony that had taken place.
The application was well received by the distributor with the initial objective set to establish 30 branches by 2025.
Since establishing a partnership with Geely in 2017, Proton has focused on introducing an EV model but its plans have been delayed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
