Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital, Tehran, according to a statement from the Gaza administration, which blamed Israel for his death.
Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed after the building where they were staying was attacked. At the time, he was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
Through a Hamas statement, the Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement mourns together with the Palestinian people, the Arab Islamic countries and all independent Islamic countries in the world over the death of Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh after he was killed in a Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also announced Haniyeh's death.
However, the Israeli administration chose to remain silent on Haniyeh's death and Benjamin Netanyahu instructed his cabinet not to make any statements about the news.
Previously, Israel launched an attack on Gaza over its agreement to eliminate Hamas and kill its leader after the invasion incident on October 7, 2023 that captured more than 200 Israelis.
Since then, at least 39,400 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks with 90,996 injured.
