Malaysia's inflation report remains at 2.0% in June 2024 with index points recording 133.0 compared to 130.4 at the same time last year.

The impact from the implementation of the diesel subsidy adjustment on 10 June 2024 is seen to be relatively minimal when Malaysia's inflation rate is still intact as before.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that the increase in inflation was driven by the increase in prices for several main groups.

It includes the restaurant and accommodation services industry (3.3%), housing water, electricity, gas and fuel (3.2%), personal care and social protection (2.8%) and food and beverage (2.0%).

Malaysia's Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin stated that food and beverage group inflation recorded an increase of 2.0% in June. Overall inflation on a monthly basis recorded an increase of 0.2%.

Meanwhile, core inflation rose 1.9 percent in June, the same rate as recorded in May this year.

As for inflation at the state level, most states recorded an increase below the national inflation level of 2.0%.

However, four states recorded an increase above the national inflation level, namely Penang (3.3%), Sarawak (2.7%), Pahang (2.7%), and Selangor (2.4%).
