Bursa Malaysia continued its downward flow to close low at midday driven by profit-taking activity in the financial services and utilities sectors.

At 12.30 midday, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 4.39 points (0.27%) to 1,618.73 versus 1,623.12 at Thursday's close.

The main index opened 0.39 points lower at 1,622.73 and it moved between 1,617.17 and 1,622.97 in morning trading.

The loss counter beats the profit counter, namely 635 to 430. Meanwhile, 467 counters do not change.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said FBM KLCI closed high on Thursday following continued stock gathering despite some profit-making activities.

The firm thinks buying interest may gain momentum if the daily trading volume exceeds the five billion share level. Therefore, the index will range between 1,620-1,630 today.

FBM100 fell 0.34 percent to 12,114.06, FBM Gold fell 0.33 percent to 12,540.83 and FBM Ace added 0.15 percent to 5,951.12.

Sunway Construction Group Bhd emerged as the profit counter, rising 3.27 per cent or 15 sen to RM4.74 and EG Industries Bhd rose 6.93 per cent or 14 sen to RM2.16.
