Amid the uproar over recent cases of residential building fires caused by EV batteries in South Korea, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brands continue to make strides in the industry.

A Chinese automotive company, Zeekr has introduced an electric vehicle battery that is claimed to be able to charge faster than existing competitors.

The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% capacity in just 10 minutes to half an hour using Zeekr's ultra-fast charging station.

This exceeds the charging speed of other industry giants such as Tesla and BYD.

Zeekr's first vehicle to use this advanced battery, the 2025 007 sedan, will go on sale next week.

He added that the battery is able to maintain its fast charging capability even in cold conditions, charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C.

Zeekr's rapid growth reflects fierce competition in China's EV market, where brands like BYD focus on scale, while others, including Zeekr, prioritize a fast charging experience.

The parent company, Geely, supports Zeekr's progress with its vast resources, further strengthening its position in the market.

Despite this technological leap, shares of Zeekr, which began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in May, have faced challenges, particularly following the recent tariff hike on Chinese-made EVs by the Biden administration.

The measures are seen as part of a broader effort to address concerns over China's growing influence in the global EV market.
