Libya's central bank has reportedly suspended all operations after key officials were kidnapped in the capital Tripoli.

On Sunday, the announcement regarding the kidnapping of the Director of Information Technology, Musab Msallem surprised many.

It was reported that Msallem was abducted from his residence by an unknown group on Sunday morning and the other officers were also threatened to be kidnapped.

The central bank informed that bank operations will not continue until Msallem is released by the criminals.

According to a report by the AFP news agency, the incident occurred after a week of the central bank being surrounded by a group of armed men.

The armed group's action is said to be to press for the resignation of bank governor Seddik al-Kabir who has long been criticized for failing to manage the country's oil resources and budget.
