Application X or as it is known as Twitter, faces a possible ban in Brazil after failing to appoint a new legal representative as stipulated by Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes.
The situation worsened when the social media platform closed its Brazilian office citing threats of arrest against its management representative.
The conflict began when Judge de Moraes ordered the suspension of a large number of X accounts accused of spreading false information, especially supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Elon Musk, the owner of X has challenged this order and described Judge de Moraes as 'tyrannical' for threatening to reactivate the banned account.
As the legal deadline set by the Brazilian authorities passed without cooperation from X, the company expects the suspension in Brazil to continue until the representative from X is brought to justice.
In addition, Starlink which is Musk's satellite internet service has had its bank account frozen in Brazil following a Brazilian Court order after showing tensions between Musk's company and the Brazilian authorities.
The case demonstrates the ongoing challenge for social media platforms in balancing legal compliance with their stance against censorship of social media content.
