The United States (US) stock market was little changed on Wednesday as investors remained cautious ahead of the release of the latest FOMC meeting minutes report for an indication of the direction of monetary policy.

Markets are also awaiting Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium event on Friday for an indication of whether the central bank will cut interest rates by 25 or 50 basis points in September.

In Tuesday's trading, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite lost 0.2% and 0.33%, respectively, ending their eight-day winning streak.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 61.56 points, or 0.15%, to 40,834.97.

Seven of the 11 S&P sectors ended lower, led by energy, materials and financials.

Significant losses were also seen from megacap technology companies such as Nvidia (-2.1%), Tesla (-0.7%) and Broadcom (-1.1%).

On the earnings side, investors will analyze quarterly reports from TJX, Analog Devices, Synopsys, Target and Agilent, among others, on Wednesday.
