Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) recorded an annual increase of 1.3% in July to continue positive growth.

Head of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Unir Mahidin said all sectors in the local production of PPI have increased since March 2024.

Meanwhile, the increase was recorded in the water supply index which was 9.0%, electricity and gas supply at 0.3%.

Meanwhile, the local producer monthly PPI further decreased by 0.2% in July from 0.1% in June due to the manufacturing sector which decreased by 0.3%.

At the same time, the electricity and gas supply index also fell by 0.8% compared to June by 1.1%.

He also said the US PPI data increased by 2.2% in July compared to 2.7% in June.

In addition, Japan rose 3.0% from a 2.9% increase in the previous month, driven by further increases in the cost of transport equipment, food, beverages, chemicals and energy.

The United Kingdom (UK) on the other hand was strong by 0.8%, which is slightly slower than the 1% for June due to the output of the petroleum refining sector which was less impressive.

Although the data showed producer deflation, the latest figure remains the lowest since January 2023 thanks to the government's various support measures.
