Meta Platforms Inc. (Facebook) is currently investigating Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's post on the platform's website regarding the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh which they have taken down.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Meta had informed him of the incident, expressing their confusion as to why the post was removed.

Fahmi explained that Meta did not provide further details and that the investigation was ongoing without a set deadline.

The government remains in contact with Meta and will issue a statement when it becomes available.

This situation was also experienced by former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when he posted about Hamas and the death of Haniyeh.

Fahmi observed the trend and emphasized the need to determine who else has been affected and why, and what actions Meta will take to prevent future incidents.

The killing of Ismail Haniyeh happened early Wednesday in Tehran, where he was attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Haniyeh was killed along with one of his bodyguards.

In other news, Fahmi stated that the government has no plans to mandate social media licenses for influencers and content creators.

Only film producers will need a license from the National Film Development Corporation (Finas).

The license will be enforced from January 1 next year.

However, influencers and content creators are reminded to understand the law, especially when creating promotional content for products such as medicine and health goods, to avoid legal action being taken.
