China has reportedly conducted a ballistic missile test known as an ICBM into the Pacific Ocean.

The test was part of a routine military exercise by the Rocket Force of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The missile, which carried a simulated warhead, was launched at 8:44 a.m. local time, landing in a designated area.

Although the Chinese Ministry of Defense did not specify the type of missile, the DF-41 ICBM, with a range of 12,000 to 15,000 km, is a missile that the PLA may use.

China emphasized that the test was part of its annual military exercises and was not aimed at any specific country.

China's state media agency, Xinhua, confirmed the success of the test in assessing the weapon's performance and military readiness.

The PLA Rocket Force has modernized China's nuclear capabilities in response to advances in the United States' missile defense systems and surveillance technology.

Washington has previously expressed concern about China's nuclear expansion, which is growing faster than expected.

China is said to have more than 1,000 operational nuclear warheads by 2030, up from 500 reported last year.
