When speaking in Vladivostok, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explained that the Malaysian Government is not considering the reintroduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Anwar stated that no discussion had been held regarding GST as a method to manage cost increases.
The government is now focusing on alternative strategies to increase revenue and address economic challenges.
In response to reports suggesting that Malaysia may bring back the GST to strengthen its financial position, Anwar dismissed the claims, stressing that governance should not be influenced by rumours.
The possibility of replacing the subsidy cut for gasoline with a consumption tax levied on various goods and services purchased by consumers was not considered or even discussed as an option.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to handle inflation and economic concerns through other measures, reflecting his efforts to balance fiscal responsibilities without resorting to GST.
