Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd, a major player in the wholesale and retail industry, was fined RM20,000 by the magistrate's court.

The company is facing action for selling toothpaste that was not notified to the Ministry of Health.

The sentence was read by Magistrate Farah Nabihah Din on the Mydin company represented by Raja Azlan Raja Ismail and Roslizan Zin, where both pleaded guilty.

The court sentenced each representative to a fine of RM10,000, with a one-year prison sentence if the fine is not paid.

However, they immediately paid the fine.

The charge stemmed from the sale of 209 boxes and 23 sets of various flavors of toothpaste at Mydin supermarkets in Taman Danau Kota and Sinar Kota Complex on 18 July 2023.

The charge is based on Regulation 18A(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which requires notification of such products to the Ministry of Health.

Prosecution of the case by Siti Nur Sarahidah Jayatan from the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory pharmacy service department and the Putrajaya Health Department.
