A total of 430,000 borrowers failed to repay loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) amounting to RM6 billion.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said these borrowers have never made any repayments to PTPTN even though many have already worked.

He also said that unpaid loans have increased continuously every year and have directly affected PTPTN's financial resources.

Debt repayment is a moral responsibility that needs to be implemented because the funds repaid will be used by PTPTN to help future generations.

Zambry stated that PTPTN is planning to take legal action against this borrower.

In his statement, details regarding enforcement have not yet been finalized. For now, they remain reasonable and will not close the door to negotiations for those who want to settle their debts.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Dasuki said a total of 980,120 students have benefited from the WPP initiative with a total allocation of RM1.45 billion since its introduction in 1999 until 31 August 2024.

The initiative aims to ease the financial burden of students pursuing their studies at higher education institutions, polytechnics and community colleges.
