Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently asserted that toll rates can be reduced if the cost of highway development is managed effectively, free from corruption and inefficiency.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Seremban R&R area on the North-South Expressway, he pointed out that unnecessary fees and delays in the approval process contribute to increased costs.

Anwar urged the Ministry of Public Works and the Malaysian Highways Authority to streamline this process for future projects, ensuring that the public benefits from more affordable tolls.

Citing the recently launched Rumah Madani project, Anwar stressed the importance of efficient approvals, as delays only increase costs and hinder progress.

He called for a strong commitment to transparency and efficiency to avoid a worse economic burden on the people.

R&R Seremban itself is expected to drive socioeconomic development by providing business opportunities for more than 500 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and thousands of local suppliers, setting an example for future highway projects.
