Here are some of the important economic data that will be the focus of the market throughout this week.
TUESDAY (October 15, 2024)
UK Employment Data (2.00pm) – In assessing the approach the Bank of England will take in setting further monetary policy, the latest indicators will be looked at through the employment report published this week.
Canadian Inflation Data (8.30 PM) – Markets will look to the latest Canadian consumer price index reading to assess price changes. The figures could influence the decision of the central bank of Canada which is currently maintaining interest rate cuts for 3 consecutive meetings until September.
WEDNESDAY (October 16, 2024)
UK Inflation Data (2.00 PM) – In addition to employment data, UK inflation will also be monitored by the central bank. An expected decline in the latest inflation figures for September could prompt the central bank to implement monetary policy easing.
THURSDAY (October 17, 2024)
Australian Jobs Data (8.30am) – Australia is expected to add just 25,200 jobs in September, down from the previous month's 47,500. While the unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.2%.
ECB Policy Meeting (8.15pm) – After cutting by 60 basis points at last September's meeting, the European central bank is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points to its latest level of 3.40%.
US Retail Sales Data (8.30 PM) - Will affect the movement of the US dollar at the end of the week, retail sales data will be watched to assess the consumer spending situation in America. Also to be published together is unemployment benefit claim data.
FRIDAY (October 18, 2024)
UK Retail Sales Data (2.00pm) – The Pound is at risk of a dip at the end of the week following a negative forecast on the latest UK retail sales figures for September.
