The 2025 budget is expected to also prioritize the improvement of the drainage system in Kuala Lumpur, given the increasing problem of flash floods.

Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of the Safe Community Alliance (Ikatan), stressed that the existing drainage infrastructure can no longer handle the rapid development in the city.

He said that even short rains can cause floods that disrupt traffic and affect city activities.

On a recent Tuesday, heavy rain caused several main roads, including Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Perak, to be flooded.

This situation caused the Parliament session to be delayed because many Members of Parliament had difficulty getting to the building.

Lee suggested that a special provision be made under Budget 2025, which will be presented on October 18, to deal with this issue.

He stressed the need for long-term development plans to focus on improving the drainage system to prevent future floods, which are becoming more frequent due to rapid urban growth.

By investing in drainage improvements, the government can ensure Kuala Lumpur becomes more resilient in the face of weather challenges.
