Elon Musk has revealed his plan to cut $2 trillion from the United States (US) federal budget.
Speaking at a Donald Trump rally, Musk said that the cuts would affect important areas such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits.
Musk's proposal comes in response to America's high spending levels, particularly on defense, health care, and Social Security.
In 2023, US government spending will reach $6.75 trillion, with most of it earmarked for these critical programs.
Trump has also discussed spending cuts, although his previous attempts have faced resistance from Congress, particularly on health care cuts.
His proposed solution would involve a strategy to withhold certain approved funds, though that might trigger a legal challenge.
Musk's own companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX, benefit from government contracts, adding complexity to his proposal.
The idea resembles Republican Senator Rand Paul's plan to cut spending by 6% each year until the balance of the budget, although this plan faces political obstacles.
