Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong, Member of Parliament for Batu Pahat described the government's action in requiring foreign workers to contribute to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) as a wrong action.
The MCA president, in a video on his Facebook page, said that doing so would allow foreigners to enjoy the incentives given to the EPF together with Malaysians.
He took examples such as Singapore's Central Provident Fund (CPF) which has disposed of the initiative for foreign workers' accounts.
He said again, it's a bit strange when Malaysia goes against the grain of what Singapore is doing now. The support needs to be fully utilized for people who are not foreign workers.
Dr Wee also wonders whether it is fair if the annual dividend payment is the same for both parties.
Foreign workers will enjoy the same benefits as all EPF contributors and all gains in their investments will involve special consideration by the Madani Government and can no longer be considered as improvements to Malaysia.
He urged the government to remove the proposal to oblige foreign workers as contributors as stated in the 2025 Budget.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the presentation of the 2025 Budget said the government plans to oblige all non-citizen workers to contribute to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and that it will be implemented in stages.
