Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak made a public apology regarding the incident of misconduct in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) company.
In a statement read by his son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib said his father remained innocent and placed the blame entirely on fugitive businessman Jho Low and Petrosaudi executives.
Najib's apology was a few days before the Kuala Lumpur High Court decided whether he had to defend himself in the 1MDB corruption case that started five years ago.
Najib said he felt very hurt knowing all the frauds that happened in 1MDB while under his supervision as Finance Minister and Prime Minister at the time.
He publicly apologized to all Malaysians.
Najib then cited an article published by The Edge earlier this month, which showed how Low Taek Jho or Jho Low and two Petrosaudi executives, Patrick Mahoney and Tarek Obaid conspired to embezzle 1MDB funds.
The recent court hearing, the conviction of the case against the PetroSaudi executives in the Swiss court and the recent article published by the media (The Edge) based on their analysis of the case and PetroSaudi's internal emails, once again prove that I am not a mastermind and did not collude with Jho Low to embezzle 1MDB funds.
Najib claimed again that he was punished politically even though it was clear that he was not the mastermind behind all the irregularities in 1MDB and never once colluded with Jho Low.
Even so, Najib claims that he is still legally responsible for things he did not do and did not know consciously.
