The United States (US) government has recently lifted the ban on the import of rubber gloves produced by Malaysian company Brightway Group.
This ban was implemented due to concerns about forced labor practices.
According to a statement from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the ban, which was initially issued in December 2021, has been modified.
Effective from October 11, 2024, the US will now allow gloves manufactured by Brightway Holdings Sdn Bhd, Laglove (M) Sdn Bhd, and Biopro (M) Sdn Bhd to enter the country as long as they meet US legal standards.
Brightway is the last Malaysian glove manufacturer to face such restrictions.
Other companies such as Supermax Corp Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, and WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd have already been removed from the list.
CBP has also previously taken action against companies in the palm oil sector for similar labor concerns.
For example, SD Guthrie Bhd had its ban lifted in early 2023, while FGV Holdings Bhd is still working to remove its own ban.
