Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is reported to be inaugurating the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) in Kuala Lumpur on December 12, with the aim of increasing Malaysia's AI capabilities.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo emphasized that NAIO is an important institution in shaping policies and laws for the AI sector while fostering innovation and collaboration between sectors.
Gobind underlined the importance of getting and collecting feedback from the industry after the launch is made to ensure that the institution is fully utilized to meet the needs of the AI system.
NAIO is ready to focus on digital investment, innovation, policy, and governance in the AI landscape, while promoting sustainable development and improving public services.
In intensifying this effort, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is also opening a second office outside the Klang Valley in Johor next month.
This initiative aims to facilitate investment in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) which is expected to take place at the end of this year and attract great interest from global investors.
The state government is also preparing to launch the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) to produce a skilled workforce for the data center industry which is important as Johor has been turned into a data hub.
These upcoming developments emphasize Malaysia's strategic focus on integrating AI into the digital economy and improving the investment market.
