Russia welcomed its geopolitical allies when it hosted the BRICS summit last Tuesday and expressed its 'New World Order' agenda to challenge the West.

The group that was initially developed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to build the world's largest economic organization is now a geopolitical forum for powerful countries.

BRICS now has additional influence after Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE joined the group in January with membership to the bloc an attractive prospect for countries looking to boost trade, investment and economic development.

In addition, the bloc also launched the 'Global South' by attracting several economically developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America that are contrary to the agenda of the United States which is the 'Global North'.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has often commented on his ambitions to create what he calls a 'New World Order' to rival and usurp the geopolitical and economic superiority enjoyed by the US-led West.

Putin has described the now-strengthened BRICS grouping as a strong indication of the association's growing power and role in international affairs.

He also signaled that he intends to create a BRICS+ format to challenge the West on the geopolitical and economic fronts.
