Sabah became Malaysia's main producer of crude palm oil (CPO), reaching 4.5 million metric tons in 2023 due to its encouraging fruit yield and efficient oil extraction process.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor emphasized Sabah's leading role in the industry and he also emphasized the need for innovation in following national and international certification standards.
The palm oil industry is important to Sabah's economy, making up 22% of revenue and bringing in RM6.22 billion between 2018 and 2023.
To remain competitive, the state is already using technology to increase productivity and minimize environmental impact, in line with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Sabah's efforts support Malaysia's goal of net zero emissions by 2050, demonstrating its commitment to a greener future.
With 128 mills capable of processing up to 34.7 million tons of fresh fruit bunches annually, and the highest oil extraction rate of 20.4%, Sabah's palm oil industry is fully equipped for growth.
The state government encourages stakeholders to support sustainable practices, making Sabah a global hub for environmentally friendly palm oil production.
