The government is considering shifting education subsidies to focus more on the less fortunate, especially the B40 income group.
The Association of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) proposed to stop subsidies for wealthy families and redistribute the funds to support B40 and M40 students.
This will provide better access to higher education and reduce the financial burden for students from low-income families.
GPMS believes this approach is in line with the government's efforts to ensure fair social justice, as emphasized by the Prime Minister.
At the same time, the current blanket subsidy system is seen as unfair, with wealthy and disadvantaged students benefiting equally.
The Prime Minister has criticized this imbalance, arguing that wealthier families should bear the full cost of education.
Funds saved by cutting subsidies for the wealthy could help more disadvantaged students complete their education without racking up massive debt.
Although this policy shift may face resistance, it will support the government's principles of justice and better address the needs of affected communities.
