Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) sparked a roar after announcing an increase in the minimum wage to RM1,700 effective February 2025, making it the first government-linked company (GLC) to respond to Budget 2025's call for worker welfare.
This bold move brings good news to TNB's 34,000 employees nationwide and sets a new standard in the GLC sector, demonstrating the company's strong commitment to labor justice.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised this initiative in his speech during TNB's 75th anniversary celebration, describing TNB as an exemplary GLC that prioritizes employee welfare over profit.
In front of 34,000 TNB employees, Anwar stressed that the success of a company does not only depend on the wisdom of management, but is also driven by the dedication and commitment of employees at all levels.
Anwar also urged TNB to be ready to play a major role as a major energy hub in the Asean region when Malaysia takes over the regional seat next year.
Through the support of the Asean Grid initiative, Malaysia is expected to be able to become the main pulse of a more sustainable and safe regional energy sector.
This proactive move by TNB not only benefits its employees greatly but also makes TNB a benchmark for other GLCs to follow.
