According to the Auditor General's latest report, the Malaysian government has overspent on projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) from 2021 to 2023.
Total expenditure reached RM231.92 billion, exceeding the approved budget of RM222.76 billion.
Expenditure that exceeds the allocation represents 55.9% of the total amount of RM415 billion set for RMK-12.
The Auditor General advised all ministries to increase monitoring efforts to ensure that the RMK12 project is completed by 2025.
Of the 8,279 projects initiated, 2,442 have entered the post-implementation phase, 3,404 are still in implementation and 2,323 are still in the pre-implementation phase.
However, 16 projects were cancelled, and 94 were paused for further evaluation.
While many projects are on track, including 2,305 running as planned and 549 running ahead of schedule, 202 projects have experienced delays, and 241 have not made progress.
