With the celebration of Deepavali fast approaching, the Malaysian government has announced a toll exemption for all Class 1 private vehicles on highways for the entire country on October 29 and 30.
This initiative will cost around RM38 million, aimed at easing people's living costs while promoting cultural unity.
The free toll period will start at 12:01 AM on Tuesday and end at 11:59 PM on Wednesday.
However, this exemption will not apply at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas in Johor.
Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized that this initiative is in line with the MADANI government's principles which emphasize prosperity and love.
He called on road users to plan their journeys well and adhere to safety rules to ensure a smooth and safe journey during this festive season.
In addition, all road users are reminded to stop for rest if tired, for the sake of safety while driving.
