According to the latest data from Mara, graduates from Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes are leading the job market with a employability rate of 96.5%, far exceeding the 88.3% recorded by those coming from higher education institutions.

According to statistics for 2023 shared by the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, there is an increasing demand for professionals trained in TVET programmes.

However, despite the high job opportunities, TVET student enrolments have slightly decreased this year by 2%, with 77,004 students registering compared to 78,728 last year.

On the other hand, tertiary student enrolments have increased by 17%, reaching 33,749 this year, compared to 28,831 in 2023.

This change in enrolment patterns has sparked discussions about the future of education and the changing job market.

With TVET offering better job opportunities, will more students reconsider their educational path?
