Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 US Presidential Election over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and will return to the White House for another four-year term.
After losing re-election to President Joe Biden in 2020, Trump, the 45th president, will now become the 47th president.
Trump's victory marks several historic achievements. At the age of 78, he is the oldest person to win a US presidential election. Trump also emerged victorious in what is considered the most expensive presidential race in history.
Trump's victory denied Kamala Harris, the Vice President, the chance to make history as the first woman to become President of the United States.
The victory was also a remarkable political achievement for Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who only won his first election two years ago.
At the age of 40, Vance, a former Trump critic who is now a staunch supporter and leading fighter for the president-elect's right-wing populist movement, is now the first in line to succeed the president.
If Trump makes good on his campaign promises, this second administration is expected to implement an ambitious and controversial agenda centered on massive tax cuts and changing relations with foreign leaders.
Trump also promised to impose high tariffs, claiming they would simultaneously increase US revenues, strengthen domestic industry, and curb unwanted foreign competition.
Trump also said he would immediately end Russia's aggression against Ukraine, a stance that threatens to derail the Biden administration's pro-Kyiv policies.
Trump at the same time denied Democratic warnings that he would act like a dictator in office, "except on Day One."
Trump won big in key states like Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania on his way to the White House.
