Johor is making big strides with plans to offer higher starting wages to attract skilled workers for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Diploma holders can expect a starting salary of RM4,000, while those with a degree can earn RM5,000.

This is part of the state's plan to provide better job opportunities for its youth and fill up to 100,000 quality jobs expected in the zone.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) will help achieve this goal by training and identifying talented workers.

He also noted that there is strong competition with Singapore for skilled workers because of the higher wages offered there.

For example, while some local companies offer a minimum of RM1,700, the Singapore salary changes to almost RM5,000.

To boost efforts, the Human Resource Development Corporation has been instructed to give RM20 million to JTDC within a month.

Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, emphasized that JTDC will work closely with universities to ensure courses meet industry needs, supporting the growth of skilled talent.

This initiative aims to create a strong workforce and offer jobs with better pay and career growth.
