Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to visit South Korea to strengthen ties and attract foreign investment.
During the three-day trip, starting November 26, Anwar will meet with leaders of South Korea’s leading companies, or “chaebol,” aimed at increasing foreign investment into Malaysia.
He will also attend a business forum with over 180 South Korean companies involved.
The visit underscores the strong ties between Malaysia and South Korea, with trade between the two countries already worth RM91.1 billion in 2024.
South Korea is Malaysia’s seventh largest trading partner, while Malaysia ranks 11th for South Korea.
Investment between the two countries has reached RM61 billion.
Anwar will meet South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to discuss economic cooperation, defence, infrastructure, energy and cultural exchanges.
Four major agreements will be signed, including a carbon capture and education agreement.
The Prime Minister will also meet with Malaysians in South Korea, meet with Muslim community leaders, and deliver a public lecture at Seoul National University on the future of Asia.
The visit, Anwar's first to South Korea as Prime Minister, highlights Malaysia's dedication to expanding economic and cultural partnerships, especially as the two countries approach their 65th year of diplomatic relations in 2025.
