The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) stated that the average monthly basic living expenses (PAKW) of households in Malaysia in 2023 recorded a value of RM4,729 with an average household size of 3.8 people.
He also said that a comparison by area of recording PAKW in urban areas is higher than in rural areas with recorded values of RM5,040 and RM3,631 respectively.
Factors that affect the value of PAKW are household size, age, gender and area. Households with more members need more expenses to meet the needs.
Meanwhile, Selangor recorded the highest PAKW value of RM5,854, followed by Kuala Lumpur (RM5,468), Labuan (RM5,376), Melaka (RM5,291) and Putrajaya (RM5,249).
These states recorded a PAKW value that exceeded the national level at RM4,729.
On the other hand, the lowest PAKW value was recorded in Perak with a value of RM3,723, followed by Kedah (RM3,787), Perlis (RM3,818), Pahang (RM3,949) and Negeri Sembilan (RM3,987).
Petaling District recorded the highest PAKW value in Malaysia which is RM6,660.
