The Malaysian government is currently holding a huge amount of unclaimed money of RM12.8 billion, waiting for its rightful owner.
According to Finance Minister II, Amir Hamzah Azizan, this amount includes funds submitted by various companies, and so far, RM4.2 billion has been successfully claimed.
The government is working hard to raise public awareness, with 184 booths set up across the country to help individuals check if they have unclaimed funds and learn how to claim them.
To make it easier for owners to access their funds, the government is considering using the latest data from the National Registration Department.
This way, they can find the rightful owner or heir directly and transfer the funds into their account, saving time and effort.
In addition, the Ministry of Finance is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Water to address Sabah's energy needs.
This includes reviewing payment requests and offering a possible moratorium on Sabah Electricity's loan to the government which is estimated to be worth around RM65 million.
There is also a subsidy of RM3.54 billion for a period of 7 years until 2030, which is planned for Sabah's electricity sector with the state's approval for the regulation of electricity and gas supply.
These measures highlight the government's commitment to helping its citizens reclaim unclaimed funds and support regional energy needs.
