Is cooking oil the next target package for the elimination of subsidies?
The government is currently examining a proposal to abolish the packet cooking oil subsidy which is claimed to be the cause of large leakages in the local market and national borders.
This subsidy, which aims to ease the burden of the people, is reported to be often misused, and there are even reports that it is being sold in neighboring countries such as Thailand.
According to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, this situation has become a huge waste, with the government bearing millions of ringgit each month.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is currently devising a new method to ensure that assistance reaches the people who really need it, including replacing this subsidy with special financial assistance for the target group.
However, the final decision has not yet been reached at the Cabinet level.
The question is, is this a solution step or just transferring the financial burden to the people?
