Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has finalized a 15-year agreement with Malaysia’s Petronas to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) starting 2028.

The agreement solidifies Adnoc’s position as a major LNG provider, reflecting its growing focus on the global energy market.

Under the agreement, Adnoc will ship one million tonnes of LNG annually.

The fuel will largely come from its new export facility in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, which is currently under development.

The move is part of Adnoc’s efforts to expand its LNG capacity and support cleaner energy solutions.

The agreement follows a similar agreement signed with Germany’s SEFE last month.

Adnoc has invested heavily in LNG infrastructure, including the multi-billion dollar Ruwais LNG project and stakes in export facilities in the United States and Africa.

The effort is in line with the Middle East’s growing emphasis on natural gas as a bridge to cleaner energy.

Earlier this year, major energy firms such as Shell and TotalEnergies acquired a 10% stake in the Ruwais project.

Once operational, the Ruwais facility will increase Adnoc Gas's production capacity to 15 million tonnes per year, more than its current production.
