China has decided to stop exporting gallium, germanium, antimony and other materials to the United States (US).
These resources are essential in producing advanced technology, including chips, solar panels and military equipment.
The ban takes effect immediately, with stricter rules on the export of graphite-based products as well.
Beijing said the move was to protect its national security.
The materials are essential for both civilian and military products.
Gallium and germanium are key components for semiconductors, infrared devices and optical fibers.
Antimony is used in batteries, ammunition and high-tech weapons.
Since China is the largest global supplier of these minerals, the decision could disrupt industries that rely on them.
The ban comes shortly after the US imposed new limits on China's chip industry, targeting more than 140 companies.
While trade between the two countries in some of these materials had already slowed, the new restrictions have further heightened tensions.
