El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, announced in a tweet on the X platform (Twitter) an extraordinary gold discovery worth a total of around $3 trillion.

This discovery has the potential to transform El Salvador’s long-struggling economy and provide new hope for prosperity and economic stability.

Initial sources reported that 4% of the mining area had found 50 million ounces of gold worth $131,565 million.

If the area is fully exploited, the total value could reach more than $3 trillion and that figure could support 8,800% of El Salvador’s GDP.

However, the discovery will pose great challenges, especially environmental risks around the mining area including water pollution, destruction of animal habitats and ecosystem changes.

In addition, there are also social implications that need to be considered such as the rights of local communities, jobs and fair distribution of wealth across all levels of society.

The government of El Salvador must address this issue wisely to ensure that the benefits of this treasure can be enjoyed by all without causing long-term damage.

From an economic perspective, this discovery could be a catalyst for economic growth, creating jobs and improving the country's infrastructure.

In addition, the government needs to formulate policies that support the development of local industries, education and social welfare to ensure that this wealth brings balanced benefits.
