Malaysia's trade with China is reported to have reached RM355 billion from January to September 2024.
According to Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Mohamad Hassan, the figure is an encouraging reading and shows a significant increase compared to RM325.83 billion in the same period last year.
This growth is in line with the impetus of the diplomatic and working visits made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to China last month and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's first state visit to China in September.
The visits have helped strengthen ties and foster discussions on cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, and tourism.
Who would have thought, this visit also had an impact on the economy, with projects worth almost RM6 billion expected to create more than 5,000 job opportunities.
China has remained Malaysia's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with total trade last year reaching RM450.84 billion.
This increasingly strong economic partnership demonstrates the importance of the Malaysia-China relationship in shaping the regional trade landscape.
