Thailand and Malaysia have set a lofty target of reaching $30 billion in bilateral trade by 2027.
The effort focuses on increasing cross-border trade and strengthening ties in key sectors such as halal goods and the rubber industry.
During the visit of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to Malaysia, hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the two countries agreed on cooperative measures to increase trade.
The plans include joint initiatives in the development of halal products, research, and sustainable rubber trade.
Infrastructure development such as the Second Bridge project connecting Rantau Panjang and Su-Ngai Kolok, and the road link between ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam and CIQ Sadao, are aimed at increasing the flow of goods and passengers.
The two leaders also stressed the importance of digital economy cooperation and private sector involvement.
The rubber industry cooperation agreement and cultural exchanges further strengthen the partnership.
Tourism with plans under the “6 Countries, 1 Destination” initiative to increase travel connectivity and border crossings.
Security is also a focus with both countries committed to stronger security cooperation, tackling crime, and fostering peace on Thailand's southern border, aiming for mutual growth and stability.
