The Director-General of the Civil Service (KPPA), Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, recently announced that 1,400 civil servants, or 0.13% of the total, have decided not to participate in the Civil Service Remuneration Scheme (SSPA), even though the scheme offers a salary increase of up to 15%.

The deadline to participate in the scheme has passed on November 30, and those who choose not to participate will not be able to change their decision.

The SSPA scheme is a government programme that offers salary increases of between 7% for top management and 15% for the executive, manager and professional categories.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said that although the salary increases offered look attractive, the small number who chose to reject the scheme caught his attention.

Most of the civil servants who rejected the new terms came from the management, executive and professional categories.

He stressed that the government believes those who rejected the scheme had valid reasons and had made their decision after careful consideration.

Various discussion sessions have also been held to help civil servants make informed choices.

However, Wan Ahmad Dahlan stressed that the decision not to participate is final and “there is no going back!”
