The Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) has urged Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) to remove the RM1 fee for interbank ATM withdrawals, as it is a financial burden on low-income families.
NUBE stressed that the fee is too high for most customers, including union members who are struggling to recover from the economic impact of the pandemic, and that the fee is adding to their burden.
The RM1 fee, which was reintroduced in February 2022 after a temporary exemption during the pandemic, is particularly challenging for those who need to withdraw money from ATM machines outside their bank network.
NUBE is calling on PayNet and its shareholders, including Bank Negara Malaysia, to waive this fee for all low-income individuals and explore alternative ways to ease their financial burden.
