Nvidia, the global leader in AI hardware, has received the ‘green light’ from the European Union to acquire Israeli startup Run:ai.

The deal, estimated to be worth $700 million, has not faced opposition from EU regulators, who confirmed it would not hurt competition in the 27-member bloc.

Run:ai, founded in 2018, creates software that optimizes the use of AI computing power, making it easier for companies to train AI systems.

Nvidia has been working closely with the company since 2020 and sees the acquisition as a significant step in their partnership.

Despite Nvidia’s dominance in AI chips that power advanced systems, the EU found that other software options compatible with Nvidia hardware were still available.

This reassured regulators that the deal would not unfairly limit options for businesses.

The acquisition follows Nvidia’s purchase of Israeli company Mellanox Technologies in 2020 for $7 billion.

It highlights Nvidia's strategy to expand its AI ecosystem through major acquisitions, especially as competitors aim to challenge its stronghold in the AI chip market.
