After six years of struggling with a water supply crisis, more than 1.5 million residents in Seberang Perai will soon enjoy a more stable water supply.
Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) has announced an investment of RM1 billion to build two new water treatment plants in Sungai Perai and Sungai Muda starting in 2025, with a combined capacity of 250 million litres per day.
This move will increase Penang’s treated water reserves by 15%, supporting the growing demand of residents and businesses.
The water supply crisis, which was a major issue in the Sungai Bakap By-Election, has affected the daily lives of residents including the small business and industrial sectors.
As part of the Water Contingency Plan 2030, this project is a collaboration between PAAB, the Penang state government, and PBAPP.
PAAB is committed to strengthening the country’s water system, ensuring the sustainability of industries and a more stable future for the people.
