Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to change the employment landscape in Malaysia, affecting more than 30% of jobs in the next ten years.

Key industries such as manufacturing, services and information technology will undergo a major transformation, according to Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang.

With the impact of AI on various industries, more than 600,000 workers will need to be retrained in the next three to five years to remain competitive.

In addition, by 2030, Malaysia will need 500,000 more skilled workers to meet industry demand.

The government is taking steps to ensure that training programmes are relevant and in line with international standards, covering areas such as cybersecurity, intelligent systems management and data analytics.

To support this transition, the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) has introduced the Technology and Technical Professional Development Council (TPDC).

This initiative ensures the quality of short-term training courses and certifies that the skills acquired meet industry needs.

MBOT President, Professor Emerita Datuk Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, stressed that this effort is in line with Malaysia's national policy to improve the efficiency and professionalism of the workforce.

Through a partnership with the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp), MBOT-certified courses will gain recognition, helping workers remain relevant in the rapidly growing job market.
