Apple's sales saw a sharp decline in its smartphone sales in China in the last three months of 2024.
According to the latest data, Apple's iPhone shipments fell by 25%, with only 13.1 million units sold.
Despite Apple's sales decline, it still remains the top smartphone seller in China with a 17% market share.
But Huawei's smartphone sales are growing, which could challenge Apple's position.
Huawei sold 12.9 million smartphones in the same period, recording a 24% growth.
The increased demand for Huawei's smartphones is driven by its premium smartphone lineup powered by powerful domestically-made chips.
To boost sales, Apple introduced discounts in early January, the company offering prices of up to 500 yuan (about $68) for the iPhone 16 model.
Chinese online retailers have also joined Apple's campaign, offering even bigger discounts on older iPhone models.
In addition, they also offer a better retail experience, trade-in options and interest-free payment plans.
This action shows Apple's commitment to compete and remain relevant in the increasingly fierce Chinese market with Huawei gaining more attention from Chinese consumers.
